Reported by Celso De Guzman Caparas The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) officially announced last Tuesday, July 20 in their website and other social media platforms that the 70th edition of Miss Universe pageant will air live around the world from the southern resort city of Eilat, Israel. From MUO's website : "NEW YORK, NY (JULY 20, 2021) – The Miss Universe Organization, the Israeli Ministry of Tourism and the city of Eilat today announced that the 70th MISS UNIVERSE® competition air live from Eilat, Israel in December 2021. The 70th MISS UNIVERSE Competition will once again be hosted by legendary entertainer Steve Harvey on FOX." From MUO's Official Facebook page: "70 YEARS! The 70th #MISSUNIVERSE competition is heading to ....Eilat, Israel! MISS UNIVERSE will air live around the world December 2021. Stay tuned for more information or visit missuniverse.com Travel to Eilat!" As to date, Israel has produced only one winner. Then 20-year old Rina Messinger was crowned as Miss Universe 1976 at the Lee Theater in Hong Kong on July 11 that year. She bested 71 other delegates including Philippine bet Lizbeth de Padua. Israel's most notable delegate is Gal Gadot who competed in Miss Universe 2004 in Quito, Ecuador. She was unplaced. Australia's Jennifer Hawkins won the coveted crown and title. Gadot is now a popular Hollywood actress. She's best remembered as 'Wonder Woman' in the superhero film 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' in 2016.
Reigning Miss Universe 2020 is Mexico's Andrea Meza. She was crowned last May 16 in Hollywood, Florida, USA. Meanwhile, Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo who finished Top 20 in the 69th Miss Universe will crown her successor on September 25. Venue and time still to be advised. |
