By Noli A. Berioso
The Philippines snared the elusive back to back victory at the Miss Earth 2015 Beauty Pageant recently held in Vienna, Austria. Twenty-five year old Manilena Angelia Ong bested eighty five other environmental beauty warriors around the globe. She was crowned by 2014 winner Jamie Herrell also from the Philippines. This is the first time a back to back coup happened in the fifteen year history of the pageant.
The grand coronation night was held at the historic Marx Halle last December 5, 2015. Angelia’s environmental court includes Miss Australia Dayana Grageda-Miss Air; Miss USA Britanny Ann Payne-Miss Water and Miss Brazil Thiessa Sickert-Miss Fire.
During the final question and answer portion, Angelia was asked what will be her new Miss Earth slogan for the next years to come. “'We will , because we can'. I want to let everybody know that all things are possible and feasible if we will work together. 'We will, because we can'”, she replied to the host.
Angelia is the third Miss Earth winner from the Philippines. Karla Henry won the first title way back in 2008. For the next one year, Angelia will be the official spokesperson of Miss Earth Foundation at the United Nations Environment Program and will be touring some key cities in different countries to promote the cause of the pageant, to preserve and protect our mother nature.
Carousel Productions, Inc., headed by Ramon Monzon, Lorraine Schuck and Peachy Veneracion, is the organizer of Miss Earth pageant and was launched in 2001 with the slogan “Beauty for a Cause”. The pageant became popular and has come to be considered one of the major international beauty contests in the pageant industry today. This is the first time in the last five years the pageant was held outside its home base in Manila, Philippines. In 2010, Na Trang, atropical island in Vietnam hosted the pageant.
Angelia is set to arrive on December 15 where a victory party and a press conference await her. Mabuhay and congratulations to our third Miss Earth winner!
