Then 20-year old Rina Messinger was crowned as Miss Universe 1976 at the Lee Theater in Hong Kong on July 11 that year. She bested 71 other delegates including Philippine bet Lizbeth de Padua. Israel's most notable delegate is Gal Gadot who competed in Miss Universe 2004 in Quito, Ecuador. She was unplaced. Australia's Jennifer Hawkins won the coveted crown and title. Gadot is now a popular Hollywood actress. She's best remembered as 'Wonder Woman' in the superhero film 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' in 2016.
Reigning Miss Universe 2020 is Mexico's Andrea Meza. She was crowned last May 16 in Hollywood, Florida, USA. Formerly known as Binibining Pilipinas USA, the event marks the successful return of the Miss Filipina International and Miss Filipina Teen pageants, which were last held in 2019 and did not hold events last year due to the global health situation. Among them are actress, recording artist Kisses Delavin, former Bb. Pilipinas queens Katrina Jane Dimaranan and Leren Mae Bautista, and Asia's Top Next Model 5th season winner Maureen Wroblewitz. All of these can be done from their hometowns. These challenges will be posted on the MUPh App. All the voting will be done on the MUPh App. If you want to support the delegates, download the MUPH App and vote. The first of the virtual challenges will be the Headshot Challenge wherein all the delegates will be required to do headshots to be uploaded on the MUPh App. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite delegates. Their votes, along with the MUPh judges, will determine who will advance to the next round of 75 delegates. Through online voting, the MUPh App and the judges, the field will be narrowed down to Top 50. These Top 50 delegates will then travel to Manila for a Live Interview Challenge with the Miss Universe Philippines board of judges. The 10-minute film is "the story of 15-year old Dax who lives alone in Manila and finds home and happiness in ballet. It received a production grant from Canada's Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and post production was sponsored by the Canadian Arts Council," Alcedo shared. He's immensely grateful to the people behind the success of 'They Call Me Dax.' "The film would not have been possible if not for the generous participation of Dax Echipare, Fe Echipare, Mauie Caguimbal and Luther Perez. Jover bested four other nominees : Bad Tidings by Samuel Russell and Christopher Maher (USA), Externo (External) by Jonathan Taub and Leandro Taub (USA); 1618 by Luis Ismael (Portugal) and Bone Cage by Taylor Olson (Canada). Lovi Poe who played Laura, Nardo's (Allen Dizon) violent wife was nominated in the Best Female Actor - Narrative Feature category. Winner was Lisa Ludwig for Mother's Day directed by Travis Carlson (USA). "Weaving together interviews, animations, old photos, and live action drama, Ghosts of Kalantiaw explores the ferocity of the imagination and the burden it places on people who have none." • Divine Factory by Joseph Mangat will receive a S$20,000 cash prize under the Post-production Grant from Tan Ean Kiam Foundation.
"Divine Factory guides us through the universe of a city-factory, a labyrinth where the marginalised work day and night painting and molding the likeness of Catholic holy saints." • April Mud by Timothy John Baraceros Collanto will receive a cash amount of S$4,000 from C47 Investment, and post-production support worth S$4,000 from White Light Post.
